“Total online Christmas gift and food expenditure this year is expected to increase to an estimated £4.7bn, up 10% on 2007 (£4.2bn)"
The latest retail report has just come out of Deloitte and Touche who suggest total online Christmas gift and food expenditure this year is expected to increase to an estimated £4.7bn, up 10% on 2007 (£4.2bn).
The current growth is in part driven by an increase in the number of people planning to buy some gifts online (up six percentage points to 50%) and a slight increase in the proportion of consumers expecting to do most of their gift shopping online. But more importantly, it is the established online shopper – more likely to be young, affluent and male, who will be driving growth as they plan to spend an average of £773 overall on Christmas shopping compared with £655 for the total population.”
76% of consumers when asked "are you planning to spend more, less or the same compared to your overall spending last year" said they would spend the same or more.
