Learn About Editorial Statuses

Submitted ad groups undergo review to make sure that they meet the Microsoft adCenter Editorial Guidelines. The ad and keyword editorial review is a quality check to make sure that ads are well written and relevant to user's searches.

After you save new ads or keywords, you can see details of the review process under the Status column. In most cases, ads and keywords are reviewed in a timely manner and are live soon after they have been submitted. The review takes longer if the ad or keywords do not meet the editorial guidelines. In these situations, additional review of ads and keywords could take as little as several hours or as long as several business days.

Editorial statuses

Draft: Ads and keywords in draft status do not go through editorial review.

Active: Ads and keywords that pass the editorial review are live and available to be displayed shortly after they have been submitted. As long as your active ad content has at least one active keyword associated with it, your ad will be available for display. To reduce the number of e-mail messages that you receive about the Microsoft adCenter account, active ads are published without e-mail notification.

Inactive: This means that keywords are undergoing additional review, and ads that are associated with keywords in this status are not live. If an active ad is associated with some keywords that are active and other keywords that are inactive, the ad is only live with the active keywords.

Disapproved: If ad content or keywords do not meet the editorial guidelines, they are disapproved. In such cases, you will receive an e-mail notification that lists the items and their respective status. Microsoft adCenter sends disapproval notifications once a day.

Paused: This status means you have temporarily chosen to stop running the ad or keyword. Paused items will still go through editorial review, but ads will not be displayed until you resume them.
