Behavioral targeting, or the method of mapping online activity, is a practice that is poised for growth. According to an article from eMarketer, growth on ad spend of behavioral targeting will increase to $4.4 billion by 2012.1 This is a substantial increase compared to the modest $775 million that is being spent on it today.
eMarketer says what will most likely drive behavioral targeting’s growth is the emergence of online video. 1 Online video’s presence on the web is increasing at a rapid pace. Since video ads are high priced and as advertisers invest more in them, they will likely use behavioral targeting to ensure the efficiency of their investments.
