You can use placeholder {param2} and {param3} variables to change many ads simultaneously. Placeholders can save you time if you want to update numerous ads throughout your campaign.
The ad text "All roses are {param2} and {param3}" could change throughout the ad campaign:
- All roses are 10% off and shipped anywhere in the country or region.
- All roses are 25% off and shipping is free.
- All roses are half-price and guaranteed fresh.
- If you have not already done so, follow the instructions to Create a Campaign and Create an Ad Group.
- On the Ads page, type your ad information in the Ad title, Ad text, Display URL and Destination URL boxes.
- Under the Ad title, Ad text, Display URL or Destination URL boxes, click Insert dynamic text and then click Placeholder {param2}.
Repeat this step if you want to add the second placeholder, {param3}.
- Click Save and then click Continue.
- On the Keywords page, type your keywords in the box.
- Click Add to keyword list.
- In the keywords table, type placeholder text in the Placeholder {param2} box and, if you are using it, the Placeholder {param3} box. To speed up this process when you have a large number of keywords, you can edit keywords in bulk
- To save your changes, click Continue.
- Click the Campaigns tab.
- On the Select a campaign page, click the campaign with the ad group you want to edit.
- On the Select an ad group page, click the ad group that you want to edit.
- Click the Ads tab and under Saved ads, click the ad that you want to edit.
- Under the Ad title, Ad text, Display URL or Destination URL boxes, click Insert dynamic text and then click Placeholder {param2}. Repeat the two previous steps if you want to add the second placeholder, {param3}.
- Click Save.
- On the Keywords tab, click Edit keywords.
- In the keywords table, type placeholder text in the Placeholder {param2} box and, if you are using it, the Placeholder {param3} box. To speed up this process when you have a large number of keywords, you can edit keywords in bulk.
- To save your changes, click Continue.
Notes
- Although {param2} and {param3} can each contain up to 70 characters, the ad title cannot exceed 25 characters and the ad text cannot exceed 70 characters. Therefore, when using placeholders in the ad title or ad text, be careful not to exceed these limits.
- When you insert dynamic text, you can include the default text to be displayed if a variable causes the ad to exceed character limits. You can define defaults for all types of dynamic text: {keyword:default}, {param1:default}, {param2:default} and {param3:default}. For example, if you want people to see "All roses are on sale and fresh" when a {param2} or {param3} variable causes your ad text to exceed the limits, type your ad text like this: All roses are {param2:on sale} and {param3:fresh}.
