Use Dynamic Text to Insert Keywords

You can use the {keyword} variable to make your ad title, ad text and display URL show keywords that match, or closely match, the text a customer types. Making your ads more relevant to customers can help increase the click-through and conversion rates of your ad campaign.

Customize a new ad using keywords:

  1. Follow the instructions to Create a New Campaign and Create a New Ad Group.
  2. On the Ads page, type your ad information in the Ad title, Ad text, Display URL and Destination URL boxes.
  3. Under the Ad title, Ad text, Display URL or Destination URL boxes, click Insert dynamic text and then click Keyword {keyword}.

Repeat this step if you want the keyword to appear more than once in your ad.

  1. Click Save and then click Continue.
  2. On the Keywords page, type your keywords in the box.
  3. Click Add to keyword list.
  4. To save your changes, click Continue.

Notes:

  • When using {keyword} dynamic text, make sure that the variables don’t result in ads that are too long. Ad titles cannot exceed 25 characters and ad text cannot exceed 70 characters. For example, if your ad title is "{keyword} free delivery" and one of your {keyword} variables is "mountain bike parts," your ad will not be displayed.
  • When you insert dynamic text, you can include the default text to be displayed if a variable causes the ad to exceed character limits. You can define defaults for all types of dynamic text: {keyword:default}, {param1:default}, {param2:default} and {param3:default}. For example, if you want people to see "Bike parts free delivery" as your ad title when a keyword variable causes your title to exceed the limits, type your ad title like this: {keyword:Bike parts} free delivery.
