Using Dynamic Text to Bring Customers to Your Page

You can use destination URL {param1} variables to send customers to various landing pages, based on their search queries. Customizing your ad in this way can lead customers to the most relevant page on your site and increase your conversion rate.

Change the landing page for a new ad:

  1. Follow the instructions to Create a Campaign and Create an Ad Group.
  2. On the Ads page, type the appropriate information in the Ad title, Ad text and Display URL boxes.
  3. In the Destination URL drop-down list, select Keyword destination URL.
  4. Click Save and then click Continue.
  5. On the Keywords page, add keywords to the table.
  6. In the table, type the landing page URL in the Destination URL {param1} box for each keyword.
  7. To save your changes, click Continue.

Change the landing page for an existing ad:

  1. Click the Campaigns tab.
  2. On the Select a campaign page, click the campaign with the ad group that you want to edit.
  3. On the Select an ad group page, click the ad group that you want to edit.
  4. Click the Ads tab and under Saved ads, click the ad that you want to edit.
  5. In the Destination URL drop-down list, select Keyword destination URL.
  6. Click Save.

Notes:

  • If you don't add the landing page URL to the Destination URL {param1} box, the keyword will be disapproved and ads will not be displayed for that keyword.
  • The dynamic text type {param1} is used to designate the destination URL and is used for tracking customer information using query strings. For more information, see Use Query Strings to Track Customer Information.
  • When you insert dynamic text, you can include the default text to be displayed if a variable causes the ad to exceed character limits. You can define defaults for all types of dynamic text: {keyword:default}, {param1:default}, {param2:default} and {param3:default}. For example, if you want people to be directed to your home page (www.fourthcoffee.com/home) when the {param1} variable causes the destination URL to exceed the limits, type {param1:www.fourthcoffee.com/home} into the Destination URL {param1} box.
