They are often considered a breed apart, but nobody can deny the importance of having a great sales team. In the words of Rory Sutherland, Vice Chairman of the UK Ogilvy Group, creating desire doesn’t automatically translate into human action and that good salesmanship is very much coming back into vogue. He spoke at length today in the Debussy Theatre at the Cannes Lions 2010 festival about the need for people who will compliment a great advertising campaign. And so Ogilvy launched a competition on YouTube to find the World’s Greatest Salesperson, inviting candidates to submit a video of them selling a red brick to bag a trip to Cannes for the final!
Three finalists, Y. Lee Abbas from Japan, Todd Herman from Canada and Eric Polins from the US were invited to pitch the Motorola Milestone in under three minutes, with each taking a decidedly different approach.
However, the clear winner, as voted for by the audience in the theatre, was Todd Herman who secured 52% of the vote. Check out his video entry below.
