With 3,000 more people registered than last year’s somewhat subdued event, and our competition looking to really step it up this year, I wanted to highlight some of the Microsoft events that are “can’t miss” for everyone heading to Cannes - and for those not heading there, be sure to follow the action at our dedicated Cannes Lions micro site.

Microsoft Workshop | The Rise of Rich TV: Bringing It All Into Focus
Wednesday, June 23, 10:00-12:00
Location: Workshop Room, Palais des Festival
Interactive TV, on-demand, DVRs, TiVo, Hulu, Canoe, and TV Everywhere. In the chaotic landscape that is the state of television today, advertisers are looking for clarity. In this workshop, they’ll get it—along with groundbreaking research that proves television is evolving to become a richer, more consumer-driven experience, capable of delivering even greater impact for advertisers.
Rich TV has five key transformational attributes which are clear breaks from the TV of today. These transformers will be revealed, explored and experienced during this interactive session. Discover the shifts that are happening now— and get a first look at research that illuminates how advertisers are tracking consumer engagement and behavior with brands through TV. We’ll have a hands-on demonstration of how viewers engage emotionally with a brand through Xbox LIVE and an exclusive up-close opportunity to see how Natural User Interface (NUI) technology and Microsoft’s “Project Natal” are changing the way viewers physically engage with content
Join workshop leader and host Mark Kroese, General Manager of the Advertising Business Group in the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, along with respected researchers and speakers from Nielsen, ComScore, EmSense, and Navic/Admira. This event is a must for any brand that wants to get the most out of their TV ad dollars, engage with their audience on a deeper level, and bring the future of TV advertising into sharper focus.
Microsoft Seminar | Underdogs, Overdogs and the Games Marketers Play
Wednesday, June 23, 14:00-14:45
Location: Debussy Theater, Palais des Festival
Mich Mathews will keynote the Microsoft Seminar – Underdogs, Overdogs and the Games Marketers Play.
We all root for the underdog, and insurgent marketing is a well-established art. But how to thrive in an era where brands and companies have to play both roles, underdog and leader? Mich Mathews leads Microsoft’s complex marketing strategy in this split-personality world of old and new that spans an audience of a billion worldwide. A look at how Microsoft manages key brands like Windows, Bing and Windows Phones, and explore what the future of marketing innovation looks like for this company as they redefine the way consumers experience ads.
We look forward to spending Cannes Lions 2010 with you in person or virtually! Either way I’ll save a glass of rose for you!
