The storytelling at MIXX continues with one of the most griping storytellers at Microsoft, Jaron Lanier, Partner Architect for the Microsoft eXtreme computing group. Jaron took the audience on an avatar journey that started 30 years ago and lives on today through technology like the Kinect. He explained how the concept of an avatar originated and why they are so important.
Instead of thinking about what gadgets are out there, we need to look at biology, at our brains. If you look at the real passions of people, it is the ability to touch that is important to each of us. The human sensory motor is what made the Kinect such a desired device. What does this tell us? Above all things, knowing what your users want and engaging with them will be what makes your advertisements and products successful. This post doesn’t do Jaron’s storytelling talent justice. You’ll have to watch for yourself to see Jaron build the story of the avatar and how technology can help us stop underestimating human potential.
